Have you ever found yourself standing at a door and hesitating before you enter?

You know the feeling - nervous or apprehensive about what you will find; or buoyed up with anticipation of a delight or treat in store; or dreading what you are sure you will find? These are normal human reactions and part of what makes us who we are.

I undertook a long journey recently and arrived at the hotel where accommodation was booked. At the reception desk I have a feeling of unease, whether this was indeed the hotel I expected. But after taking the elevator to the room and slowly opening the door, I was pleasantly surprised at the very nice and comfortable room. My fears were gone, I had done the right thing after all. But on other occasions the unease was justified and the room found to be even worse than the fears indicated.

There is however one door which holds no fear and which is always open. For believers this is the door to eternal life.

In the book of Revelation (3: 8 NRSV) we read "I know your works. Look, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut".

Jesus can also shut doors, and those doors cannot be opened if someone continually says 'no' to the Lord. But if you are a believer in Christ, then His door is always open and there is nothing to fear. Lay your fears on the doorstep of His door and enter without fear.
